Our Civil Engineering teams specialise in synthetic sports surfaces and can construct every element of a 3G pitch. From the foundation works to the ancillary components such as fencing, floodlighting, spectator stands and access ways, even clubhouses, changing blocks and landscaping to give the finishing touches to a project.
The choice of pile height on a 3G surface is contingent upon the choice of sub-base construction and best application of a pitch to a sport. Rugby surfaces that require the IRB22 Accreditation must be constructed with a shockpad and a pile height of 60-65mm.
For football pitches the choice of pile height is slightly more flexible and would depend on the age and general ability of players. A 3G football pitch can also be tested to FIFA Standards to ensure suitability for its specified usage. FIFA “1 Star” Accreditation is designed for community use, focusing on longevity and durability of the turf. FIFA “2 Star” Accreditation is indicative of the highest professional standard, and is used to certify suitability for competition-level usage. This might be preferred by football clubs, universities, and sports colleges, for example.
If hockey is a consideration, then a 40mm pile height built onto shockpad (an ‘Engineered System’) is advisable. If official certification is required, the 3G hockey pitch would be accredited with an FIH ‘Global’ or ‘National’ certificate – again, depending on specified usage.
