Approximately 100 lightning bolts strike the Earth’s surface every second which is why it’s important to make sure your building’s lightning protection systems are up to scratch with our lightning protection services.
As a provider of national facility management services, one of the services we offer is lightning protection services as well as full retrofit and new installation services. Our lightning protection services are designed to give the energy from a lightning bolt a safe path to Earth.
Unpredictable weather conditions can cause a lot of damage to your business’ site or complex. B38 Group deliver effective, quality and reliable lightning protection services to help protect your property from lightning damages.
Ensuring that your lightning protection is in good working order is important to reduce the risk of hazards created by lightning current effects. The possible types of damage include injuries to people due to step and touch voltage, physical damage to the building such as fire, explosion or mechanical destruction and possible failures to internal systems due to lightning electromagnetic impulse.
All of our lighting protection systems are designed and installed to the latest British Standard (BS EN 62305) to reduce these inherent risks associated with lightning.
B38 Group are a national facilities management company based in West Yorkshire. We deliver a range of hard and soft services management to businesses, organisations and SMEs throughout the UK. As an industry leading provider of facility management solutions, B38 Group have been achieved many industry recognised accreditations including ISO Standards, CHAS and NIC EIC.
Section 5 of the Electricity at Work Act 1989 states that; all lightning conductors and earth grounding installations, should be visually inspected and tested at regularly fixed intervals, preferably not exceeding 12 months.
We recommend that the interval should be every 11 months in order to vary the season in which testing takes place over time. This counters the effect of ambient temperature and other seasonal factors on readings from the installation. We record all test conditions and results.
Each individual earth grounding point and its conductors are electronically tested for resistance to ground. If this reads below an overall maximum of 10 Ohms, a Certificate of Compliance is issued.
Power surges or transient over-voltages can be caused as a secondary effect of a lightning strike up to a kilometre away, or by the electrical switching of large inductive loads such as motors and transformers. B38 Group supplies and installs effective protection from surges with the ESP maintenance free range of voltage protectors ideal for use with; Mains power supplies, Data and Telecoms Equipment, RF, CCTV, rail and CATV Systems.
